Don Edwards

Don Edwards is the Vice Chancellor for Operations and Planning in the Department of Postsecondary Education. Prior to coming to Alabama’s Community Colleges, Mr. Edwards served as the general counsel for the State University of New York, America's largest comprehensive system of public higher education, consisting of sixty-four campuses, including four research university centers, four medical schools, three regional medical centers, one law school, thirteen university colleges, thirty community colleges, and eight technology colleges. Before his position at SUNY, Mr. Edwards served for a number of years as the Director of Operations of the New York State Thruway system, a six hundred forty-one mile toll highway system running between Buffalo, New York and New York City, and served on several multi-state governing boards that helped manage transportation and technology systems in the northeastern United States. He has also practiced law in both Alabama and New York, and has taught courses at both the community college and comprehensive college levels. Mr. Edwards received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Alabama and a Juris Doctor degree from University of Alabama School of Law. His wife, Gayle, is a Montgomery native, and their home is in Baldwin County.
